Cant install software after wine installation..

Hello,
I hv the following error when i try to install new software. this happened after installing wine can you fix it?

your locales are messed up

I did that and still it is not working. One thing is my coonection wont allow any .exe files for download. Is that a reason? but i can find the application entry in applications(they were there before keying the above command). I think applications work well. But why is it showing error?

I just read the log again and I see the problem you are missing/have a corrupted dependancy.


sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

if it says you have the latest version...


sudo apt-get purge ttf-mscorefonts-installer
sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

That should just about do it, that would explain the messed up locales, missing fonts. you need the microsoft core fonts for wine to work ;)

now I see the problem, sorry it is 3:00 am :P

You are for some reason getting a 403 error when it tries to install those fonts, the reason wine doesnt work it because it is not fully installed.

I dont know why you are getting a 403 error, I was able to access those links. Perhaps it was as you said that your proxy doesnt let you download .exe files.

Try connecting without a proxy and then run that installer again. This will allow you to install the needed files, then you can go back to using your proxy.

no, unfortunatly not, unless you are running apache and you add your ipaddress to /etc/hosts for wherever it is getting those files. then you will be downloading it from 127.0.0.1 and your isp wont block you.

That is some advanced stuff though, that is the problem with apt you cant download the packages it needs somewhere else and then tell it to use those.

there is a nice little terminal program that can allow you to change where the c: drive is. you can set it to your mounted windows partiton
