I have an old NEC 770 and would like to install Ubuntu as the OS. Can this be done? If so, how?

I took a glance on Google, using 'nec770' and 'nec770 linux'. Nice-looking tool!

People are playing with PCMCIA and CF, and NetBSD, on the NEC 770 & series.

It might be possible to get 'something' going, but it is pretty obviously not an every-day or straight-shot kind of thing. Mostly, I see people at the 'talking' stage, not the more-desirable 'bragging' stage.

If you are looking for a 'project', this sounds like an interesting one. Be a nice feather in yer hat. If you are looking to get going with Ubuntu, and this is the only piece of hardware you have, then I would go hunt down more-conventional hardware.
