Now when XHTML came out, I thought 'oh cool, this definitely looks like a step in the right direction.' XHTML 1.0 strict, transitional, and frameset looked like they were all you needed to be a 'cutting-edge' web designers, doing away with HTML 4.01's (and HTML in general) lack of clear rules and logic.
Then they came out with XHTML 1.1 (which confused me at first), purpose of which seemed to be the eventual evolution of XHTML and HTML (by evolution here I mean general progress, not a complete remodel)
It looked like what the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) was trying to do was phase out HTML and tell everyone that XHTML is the new standard we should all adhere to.
But then, they come out with HTML5, and say that this is the wave of the future...
To me it looks like they have conflicting technologies, or rather parallel technologies (why not call HTML5 maybe XHTML 2.0 or something)
I just don't see why they seem to support both HTML and XHTML, why not just completely phase out HTML and say that it is outdated and only pay attention to XHTML?
Now, if I have been horribly misguided (as indeed I think I have) please correct me if you will on anything I have said above.
