Most .conkyrc files are built through trial, and error. The below links might help.

For information regarding the variables, and what they do http://conky.sourceforge.net/variables.html and http://conky.sourceforge.net/config_settings.html

I have not tested conky, with lua. From understanding lua allows for conky to show items in a different manner.

For basic lua examples http://wiki.conky.be/index.php/Category:Lua

and this script < (http://conky.linux-hardcore.com/?page_id=2800)snip>

For more detail help, I would post further questions in conky thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=281865&page=1195
