Any linux based desktop news ticker?

currently most of them are windows ones. i did try bbc and cnn desktop news tickers with WINE and they installed perfectly but the flash is what messed things up, the constant flickering made the tickers unusable. any linux alternatives?

Why would someone use a ticker over an rss feed? or maybe I am misunderstanding the meaning of the word ticker?

I imagine that modern tickers parse RSS feeds. OP: Look for RSS desktop readers.

yup RSS readers are also great, only that tickers consume less space (on the desktop that is), and are usually more attractive/catchy etc. u get it. :)

but i guess i'll have to settle for a conky rss script.

If you've ever seen any of my screenshots you might have noticed An application on the top panel that displays news feed headlines. It's called ReTicker. Unfortunately it only seems to work with ROX Desktop. But if you know Python you could probably get it to work with Gnome, KDE or Xfce4, etc, as well.

Another Pirillo fan! lolll Snackr is unfortunately running on top of Adobe Air. To be blunt their is no way in hell that am running that kind of bloat on my Linux desktop. It bad enough that we have to deal with Flash am not running anything else from Adobe if I can help it.

knewsticker was awesome! But it was never ported to KDE4 :( (:
