Windows XP SP3
Virtual PC 2007
Ubuntu 9.1 ISO image

On my third re-install, (why there isn't a detect & fix install)?

Trying like many others to get a display resolution beyond the unusable 800x600.

Created xorg.conf in etc/X11 (does not exist in 9.1 apparently?)

After reboot, screen is garbled and does not go to main GUI home screen

Tried this xorg.conf:

Tried:
virtual guestbox additions (error decompressing the kernel, exceptionally unhelpful error message)

I have a fairly new intel box, the OEM ATI Radeon video card, etc...

I've tried Ubuntu before and gave up fairly quickly... not sure how something as basic as adjusting display resolution needs to be so difficult. The command line sudo -sh crap makes me sick.

Resolution larger than that indeed needs the vitualbox guest additions, editing xorg.conf -if ubuntu is guest-makes no sense.

Manual guest additions:

Forget post....or install virtualbox ;-)
