I'm on the market for a laptop, to use in college (engineering).
But I'd also like some casual gaming (nothing too heavy, like Age of Empires 3, for example).
I want something around 13 or 14 inches.
Windows will be needed (not that Ubuntu won't also be installed).
I'll need it until the end of the month.

So far there are some options, about the same price:
Option 1-
HP Pavilion DV4 2014BR (http://www.fastshop.com.br/NOTEBOOK-PAVILION-COM-PROCESSADOR-AMD-TURION-II-DUAL-CORE-M500--4GB--HD-320GB--DVD177RW--WEBCAM---PLACA-GR225FICA-ATI-RADEON-HD-4200--TELA-141QUOT--WINDOWS-7174,product,HPCJDV42014_OF,bpvitrine.aspx?&par=bpvitrine)

-14.1" 1280x800 Display
-Turion II M500 (2.2GHz)
-4Gb DDR2-800 RAM
-Radeon HD4200
-320Gb HD
-Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
-802.11b/g and Bluetooth
-VGA and HDMI out
-IR Remote control (don't really need this, but a nice extra, anyway)
-Comes with 3 MS Office licences
-33.4cm x 24cm x 2.4 / 4cm
-2,27 Kg

Option 2-
Dell Vostro 1320 (http://www1.la.dell.com/br/pt/empresa/Port%C3%A1teis/laptop-vostro-1320/pd.aspx?refid=laptop-vostro-1320&s=bsd&cs=brbsdt1&~ck=mn)
http://i.dell.com/resize.aspx/laptop-vostro-1320-hero/295
-13.3" 1280x800 Display
-Core 2 Duo T6670 (upgradeable to P8600, but not sure if it's worth the price)
-3Gb DDR2-800 RAM (can upgrade to 4Gb, but it's not necessary with a 32-bit OS)
-Geforce 9300GS
-250Gb HD
-Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
-802.11 a/g/n WLAN
-VGA out
-31.7cm x 24.3cm x 2.4 / 3.7cm
-1.86 Kg

Option 3- Wait for Arrandale to arrive here and hope it's not expensive, there were already some pre-order Acers with it in Walmart, but they are sold out now. Dell said they should start selling Arrandales here by the end of the month.

I'm open to new suggestions, but with my budget and all the taxes in Brazil, it shouldn't be over $700 in US.

Thanks for the suggestion, but ThinkPads are pretty much non-existent here, very hard to find them in stores. And if I find one, chances are that it's outdated and expensive, just look at that link, they all come with Windows Vista.

p.s. just a note that if you wanna run virtual machines w/ hardware virtualization, you will have to upgrade the processor of the vostro to the one you were wondering if it was worth upgrading to.

It seems that the C2D 6670 does have VT. Is there any other feature needed for hardware virtualization?

EDIT: It seems I'm really lucky when it comes to notebooks, first the Core i3 Acers were sold out, now that HP with MS Office is also sold out. Maybe it's better to wait one or two weeks...

The HP is back, in the same store for the same price and free shipping, I'm almost buying it... In other stores that same computer is about 10% more expensive with no MS Office.

I'm just not sure if I should wait for the i3 and i5 to arrive.
