Hey there,
currently I'm searching for a way to hide the text that appears next to a program icon in the taskbar (e.g. Firefox near the firefox icon). I liked this when I saw a friend's windows 7 desktop and I know the Ubuntu community is even more powerful with such things. ;)

Looking forward to reading replies. :)

Hi there..
Well, I don't know how to do this from Gnome (Ubuntu).
But if you're really interested in this you can use KDE with The Smooth Task Plasmoid (http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Smooth+Tasks?content=101586) to have this feature, and many more..

There are lots of options for this: Namebar (http://www.webupd8.org/2009/12/dockbarx-024-released-features-pin-to.html), Talika (http://www.webupd8.org/2010/01/talika-applet-icons-only-window-list-on.html), Chrome-like "Pin tab" (http://www.webupd8.org/2010/01/chrome-like-pin-tab-feature-for-gnome.html) for the gnome panels, etc...

That's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
