Needs to be compatible with VoIP, perferabily using a virtual microphone method (or what ever they call it)

Don't care if it is free or not, just as long as it also has multi-platform support (namely windows and ubuntu)

Get a Darth Vader mask with built-in voice changer. This will also avoid embarrassing moments if your web-cam is inadvertently left switched on.

Howdy,

You can probably pipe your voice through Sound Exchange (sox). Just don't ask me how - Google is your friend:

I the past, I used a guitar effects processor between the mic and computer input.

You might try one of these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_audio_software#Effects_processing)

Haha... been on SL for 5 years, and I suggest you stick to your real gender. Don't try to pretend you're a woman just so you can get some virtual lesbian sex. Too many female avatars are men in real life. It's sad. The least you can do is be honest about your rl gender, and then noone will ask you to prove them you are female (by using voice) when you are not.

Though for sounding like a robot.. that's kinda cool, just get that annoying microsoft text-to-speech, it sounds really fake and robot-ish. But good roleplay is done by typing, unless you're acting a live-action movie.

うん ─> 運
you need to set it up right.

(lol by the way) -> it would be better if you didnt use a translator to type in Japanese.

(I am going to sleep now.)

no translator was used. I do what I can with my brain, the rest will come with time. I don't think any english word gets translated to うん. When I look up 運 I get "luck" and "lucky".

( sleep well :P )

Is there a voice changer that changes (or improves) your accent? For example: I want to improve my (insert language here) accent. Possible?

So, any chance of a serious answer to the original question? This thread doesn't provide much evidence for the claim that Ubuntu Forums are a good place to find help.

While I see no reason that the OP should have to justify his/her request, one can easily think of "legitimate" uses for voice changing software, e.g. a voiceover artist who doesn't have the $$$ to hire additional people. There are Linux distributions intended for media applications, e.g. Ubuntu Studio, CCRMA, and dyne:bolic--not having voice morphing software might make the difference between being able to switch to Linux and being stuck with Windows.

If you want a serious answer to a question, the Cafe isn't the correct place to ask. Check the banner at the top of the page. :)

I'd use a styrofoam cup if you're allergic to a TP roll.
