ver 8.04 lts will not load

I have downloaded ubuntu 8.04 LTS and 9.1 and burned both to seperate dvds ( LTS was also burned to a CD). Ver 91 works fine abut ver 8.04 will not load. I just displays a screen with
"initramfs" . Can anyone tell me how to get ver 8.04 running?

do you have windows?
if you did, try a chkdsk /f

I am tryinng to load ubuntu on a hard disk which is either unformatted or has an ext2 file system. Both of these are invisible to windows XP so running chkdsk /f would not seem to be of much use
