Trouble installing/booting, please help.

I've tried installing Ubuntu multiple times now using a CD. I've been attempting to install it to a brand new 500gb drive, but for some reason it won't work.

After using the CD to install, "Ubuntu" appears on my boot menu, but when I select it, a message pops up stating that there is something wrong and Windows needs to be corrected.

This is my first time trying a linux operating system, and my parents and friends aren't very good with technology so I've turned to the Ubuntu community. Am I missing something completely simple?

Was this a dual boot install or a wubi install?
