Installation error @ 24% every time.

[Errno5] Input/Output Device

Trying to install to a 2nd partition on my 500gb external HDD. Never had problems before - the hardrive does work (tested in Windows, and Ubuntu Live CD)

HDD might work sometimes a short time (0-1h) after it gives errors. (It is broken, if it does this.)

It might be your installation media also that is corrupted.

The HDD is fine, I can use it to install windows - just not ubuntu.

Il try a new install disk...

I ran into a similar problem just the other day installing 8.04.4 from a Live CD, only mine would always stop at 93%. I had checked the md5sum, checked the disc for integrity, etc.

I even tried an external CD/DVD usb drive. What I finally had to do was download and burn the alternate CD which is a text based installer and the installation completed without a hitch. Why, I dunno :)

I re-made my install disk, at 1x write speed and nowits all installed :)
