I think the most interesting comment is about Malaysia's aim to become a technology producer. Malaysia suffers from their best talent emigrating to more developed countries, and by using such so much oss software, it seems to have created a place to retain skilled workers and nurture their talent. Seems like the money was better spent here than just paying upkeep for proprietary software.

Wow that's a huge effort.
I think it will pay off pretty quickly.
It will be cheaper to run, and more money will go to build local know how.
Seems like a win-win for most countries to do the same.

I agree that when given the ability, countries should establish open source software. In the same way that countries make up for undersupplied services like education and health, supporting oss can lead to many benefits for the society as a whole.
