I got a new shiny computer with 4GB of RAM and I am planning to upgrade to 64bit 9.10.

Current computer is 32bit and has a lots of packages installed. I am wondering if there is a good way to migrate to 64bit without manually going through all the packages I have.

As I understand, I can not just move existing 32bit installation to new computer then do an "upgrade".

I can manage moving any custom configuration and home directories, etc from 32bit.

Any pointers are highly appreciated.

I kinda have the same question. I've been using the 32 bit installation, but I would like to use the 64bit. I was wondering if the was/is a way to upgrade from 32 to 64 without reinstalling the whole OS.

Yes, there is no one-button in-place upgrade to 64bit. That is not what I am looking for.

I am looking for good way to install all the packages that exist in current 32bit install in a new 64bit install.

Something like a command to dump all the packages from 32bit and install 64bit versions of those packages (preferably at once).

thanks.

Do you mean something like this ?

Although you may want to remove java and flash from the list, as there are good 64 bit versions (albeit flash is alpha(beta?) they work well.

Thanks. I am going to try that method. The article and comments don't comment if the method would work from 32bit machine to a 64bit, but will see how it goes.
