I'm bit of a newby with ubuntu, though I have installed and used it on other machines. I even got it installed and running on an SD card for my netbook. I never had a problem until now.
I am trying to do a clean install on a blank SATA 500 gig Hitachi hard drive. It was new when I first started and I tried to install ubuntu 9.10. I got to the install screen and it just blanks after I click the install to drive button. I tried installing the 10 beta with the same problem. I have tried using the CD (9.10) and DVD (10.04) and both give me the same results. It this point I could no longer see the drive in Windows and wound up reformatting it. I'm running a home built dual core 2.4 gig Intel processor on an ASUS P5Q motherboard, with 4 gigs of ram and a 2 gig nVidea video card. I know my system works because I am running XP and 7 on it, each on it's own drive (the P5Q lets you pick which drive to boot from at startup).
Any suggestions?
