I am using Ubuntu 9.04.

When trying to start Synaptic Package Manager using System-Administration-Synaptic Package Manager (SPM), the first time a window opens with a thin side panel but with no content and appears to go into a wait mode and 'greys out'. After a while when I attempt to close SPM I have to 'Force Quit'. The Second time I attempt this there is no response. The Third time SPM opens correctly.

If I use the Terminal with the command 'sudo synaptic start' SPM opens immediately OK on the first attempt.

Can you help please.

Thank you

I have a similar problem with opening Synaptic Package Manager. I use Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit.

On clicking on the manager, it stays in the bottom panel as "Starting administrative..." and does not respond thereafter.

Although there is no problem doing it through the terminal.

Any help shall be appreciated.
