Here is a description of a usability issue.

A friend bought a new laptop with Ubuntu pre-installed on it.

The laptop was from Algeria and it had a French keyboard. At first startup it prompted him to choose a keyboard, but the selection was overwhelming and confusing. He ended up choosing "Arabic" which defaulted to a QUERTY keyboard when he actually had an AZERTY keyboard.

This in itself was not a big deal, but it led to confusion when he chose a username and password. He ended up unable to sign in with the password he thought he had just chosen. And then he was stuck at login unable to sign in.

We were able to fix this by going into recovery mode, changing the password to something simple and then fixing the keyboard... BUT, as you can see this would be an overwhelming and discouraging experience for a new user.

Any advice on where to report this would be welcomed.
