Hey guys. I was wondering. If I were to install windows vista shrink the partition to fit only the OS and dual boot Ubuntu over it would I be able to use windows programs on the Ubuntu install.

In a sense I am wondering if I can use Ubuntu as my primary OS and use my Windows Utilities through Ubuntu on the Ubuntu partition?

If not would it be possible to install them on the windows partition and launch them through Ubuntu?

Thanks.

you can use virtual box to boot windows while inside ubuntu.

its like having Microsoft windows inside a window on ubuntu.

it helps if you have windows installed first, then install ubuntu second.

could someone tell us how to get virtualbox?

Or would Wine be a simple solution and global in a sense to all windows programs.

Or would Wine be a simple solution and global in a sense to all windows programs.

all windows software does not run on wine and some require a great deal of tinkering to get them to even work. Wine is not that good. if you want to run windows apps the best bet is to run them where they are meant to be run- in windows! So either set up a dual boot or install virtualbox.
