Hi,
I've fresh installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old laptop (Amilo 2030 by Fujistsu). The initial install completed with a too large screen resolution (known problem with that model).
At first I tried to select a lower resolution from inside Gnome, and didn't get any reasonable settings, yet left those modified settings.

Afterwards, I logged in from a non-graphical terminal, created from scratch a simple xporg.conf file (with a 1024X768 @ 60HZ mode) and rebooted.

Now, after reboot, I presumably get the right resolution ( the graphical login screen appears centered whereas initially it was lower right end of screen), yet, once Gnome starts, a get a flickering "mess".

I believe that if I can restore the initial resolution setting of Gnome, I'll be fine.

Please advise, preferably with a terminal-based solution.

Thanks !
