Hi All!

I have been on U. since 5.04.
What would be really nice in future is a basic system installation with only Gnome and apt-get installed I think.

Who needs pidgin?
I want to compile my own system by choosing apps that work for me.
Like I only run OO, Skype, Firefox with Google labs (offline sync Gmail enabled)

For the rest I dont require too many apps, I don't really play games, only run VLC media player on friday afternoon to celebrate the beginning of the weekend with my staff....

I use my machine purely for office applications.
Any suggestions? Are there people out there that think alike?
I don't feel like moving to Gentoo, as I still like the easy of U.

Let me know!

Cheers y'all from nairobi!

install the server addition then a desktop without the addons' do no-install-recommends ubuntu-desktop command found here

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/install-gui-in-ubuntu-server.html

avoid apps like webmin and sql during the initial server install.

you should than have a basic setup without apps and you can compile the rest yourself.

Instead of the server edition, you should do a cli install. It is available from the alternate cd with some digging.
