I have just completed upgrading from 8.04 to 9.10 incrementally with great success. I stayed with 8.04 because it was LTS and I worried about the problems I would get into with upgrade procedures.

I am a retired computer programmer with about 40 years of experience in writing and releasing computer programs. I know what a difficult task it is to create computer programs which are as bug free as possible and the upgrade procedures as reliable as possible. I just wanted to say that the Ubuntu developers did a wonderful job.

I have one issue which I need help with. It has to do with my video driver (radeon HD 3200 FGLRX) I installed using the System/Administration/Hardware Driver dialog box. My monitor is an Acer X233H -- 23 inch wide. The Preferred resolution is 1920x1080 but that is to much for my eyesite so I use 1280x768.

When I set it using ATI Catalyst, It sometimes gets messed up when I restart and my videos will not play in the correct size window (The window will only go to half height and full width. I can fix it by going into Catalyst and first setting it to 1920x180 and then reset it to 1280x768.

How can I get this to stay set on restart.

Thank You

Update:

I believe the half height is the key here. When I maximize a window it only uses the to half of the screen.

The resolution is still listed at 1280x768. If I set it to something else an then back to 1280x768 everthing is ok but when I reboot, it get confused again and only uses the top half of the screen for maximize.

Please any ideas? Is there a file I can edit?
