I currently have Vista, I've had it for multiple years now but enough is enough. When i open up my computer it shows two 140gb hard drives, one with a windows logo on the icon and one w/o. I have only put about 60gb in the main one, so if i transfer everything over to the second hard drive then install Ubuntu to the one with the windows logo on it will I be able to access those files?

I have an external HD but when my computer won't acknowledge it unless i reinitiate it or something which will delete everything, it's not mine so i don't want to do that. This wasn't originaly my computer so could it be that i need to be the administrator to do some of these things? I've lost the password to that login so i'm currently finding a way around that.

Any help would be great, thanks!

Yes; you can access your files. You can use 'cp' or 'dd' to copy. I'm not sure if you can use Clonezilla.
