Gateway GT5058

I am trying to reload a friends computer with Ubuntu. I am trying to install on this Gateway GT5058 and it is hanging once I select "Try Ubuntu..." and all I get is cursor blinking with nothing happening. Anyway I seen on another thread that someone used the all-text based installer and had luck. Has anyone else had this problem with this computer and how did you fix the problem?

I am going to try the full-text installer and post my results.
