Hello,

After I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my PC everything was going great until the system froze in the middle of ~200 security updates.

At reboot, I found that the system would not longer boot. It was throwing error:

udevadm trigger is not permitted while udev is unconfigured.
udevadm settle is not permitted while udev is unconfigured.
svgalib: cannot open /dev/mem

After attempting to re-install grub (and seeing a "Cannot find partitions!" error on update-grub), I ended up just changing my fstab from

UUID=blah

to

/dev/sda3...etc.

When I attempt to run the update manager again, I see that my system is up-to-date.

Is there any reason why UUID would stop working in the fstab??
