View Full Version : [ubuntu] Update program is stuck on Macromedia

I'm having a problem with the Up2date system on Ubuntu 8.04 is attempting to update the Macromedia flash player. It's on try #16 and is locking up everything.

The fact that a connection problem was not considered is hard to imagine, but instead of ranting about that, does anyone know of a simple workaround?

Update Manager messages:
Installing software screen:
"--12:26:38-- http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/installers/current/9/install_flash_player__9.tar.gz'
(try20) +> './install_flash_player_9.tar.gz'
Connecting to download.macromedia.com[]:80... failed: Connection timed out.

I can think of two:
1) uninstall the software
2) find a manual means up updating the software.

Is there a way to improve the logic/operation of the update program so it can handle an imperfect world? It has taken over an hour already for the update program to figure this out.

I forget if Adobe bought out Macromedia or just its Flash, but Adobe has owned Flash for quite some time now (at least a couple of years I think).

But I have never used 8.04. Does it have Synaptic with a button to refresh its source packages?
