Missing Shutdown/logout/username Icon (on upper right hand corner)

Ok for some reason I am missing the Shutdown/logout/username Icon (on upper right hand corner) I have tried to re-add them but its not working like it used to and now under system I have lock screen, logout and shutdown under the about ubuntu menu. Is there a way to get back to the old way? I have tried replacing the panels and all and nothing seems to work.
