Okies, hello Ubuntu Forums! Alrighty I have a problem. I installed Ubuntu onto an external hard drive. It didn't work the first time, GRUB had some random error. I tried again and it worked. I reformatted the usb external hd and ubuntu installed without any issue. But my real problem is that the linux boot program GRUB i presume won't let me boot windows. Nor will Ubuntu recognize my Internal Hard Drive. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance.

Let's get a better look at your setup & boot process. Boot the Ubuntu Live CD/USB with the external plugged in. Choose "try ubuntu without any changes", when the desktop loads come back here and use the link in my signature to download the Boot Info Script to the desktop. Once on desktop open a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and run this command
sudo bash ~/Desktop/boot_info_script*.sh This will create a RESULTS.txt file on the desktop. Paste the entire contents of that file back here. Once pasted highlight all text and click the # sign on the toolbar to place code tags around the text.

If the 320 GB is an internal disk you wiped windows. Can you clarify what the 320 GB disk is (internal or external) and the same for the 40 GB please

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you wiped the internal & installed Ubuntu to it. See here in red & scroll down for partition table in red:

I just noticed something you still have a lot of space left on that 320 GB disk. I have to go bowl in my money league now. Maybe someone else can help you. Don't mount that disk, if anything is written to it you can forget about recovering any data from it. Something went wrong there, all your space is not accounted for in the partition table unless it is unallocated space. From the live CD open gparted and post a screenshot showing sda please.

Hmmm..
Then why can I only boot with the External Drive Plugged in?
Also then why can I not see the 320GB HDD. It's been formatted and petitioned

Well anyway Thanx for all the help! I guess I'm fully Ubuntu now!
