Hi, I had tried to fix the lack of effects on my desktop using the advice in this thread (should have looked at the date first) http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=17359 and it has just stuffed up my settings! Every time I log onto my laptop I have to reset the appearance settings in Preferences to Normal under the Visual Effects tab. Other wise the windows on the screen anchor themselves at the top Left of my screen and I am not able to drag any window, or switch to another window. And if the close window icon or menu is not shown on the window then I have to shut down and restart to regain control of the desktop! As well even though I have changed the settings, and it looks for the driver and asks if it is all OK etc the Normal setting is not saved, because if I go straight back in to the Visual Effects tab, the setting is showing No Effects as marked.
Any one have a solution?
I am running Ubuntu 9.10 upgraded from the previous version, on a Compaq Presario V6000 laptop.
