View Full Version : [all variants] Split/paned desktop?

Hello, I'm guessing there's probably some well-established way to do what I want and I'm hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

I have a big widescreen monitor and I want to be able to have a window up on one side the screen that is maximized vertically but can be adjusted for size horizontally, and I want to have all the other windows never be above or beneath that window, and when I click maximize on those windows I want them to maximize to the area of the screen left over by the "main" window, and I'd like to be able to arrange this with a minimum of clicking and dragging. I would use this for splitting my attention between things I'm browsing or reading and things I want to keep an eye on.

I've got Ubuntu 9.10 with xubuntu-desktop installed, and I'm usually in Xfce (old computer).

Appreciate any help on this! Thanks!
