View Full Version : [wubi] Reinstalling Ubuntu and Transfering Settings

Ok, I have Ubuntu installed on my Laptop. It originally came with Windows 7, and I used Wubi to install it in the same partition.

Now, I want to reinstall Ubuntu, totally deleting my Windows 7 installation (I have it backed up.) But I want my Ubuntu settings like Network settings, Compiz Fusion settings, Username, Theme, and everything else to transfer over.

The reason I used Wubi to begin with, is because I couldn't get Ubuntu to install, or repartition the hard drive. (I even used a tutorial) It came with 3 partitions (2 system restore, and 1 main partition). I want to keep the 2 system restore partitions, but format the third and install Ubuntu and transfer my files. I would also like to split the home and host, so I won't have a limit on filespace. (Currently, Ubuntu won't let me access 178gigs of free space).

Can anyone tell me how to backup settings, and installing without Wubi.

Nevermind. I figured it out:

Copied my home folder to a USB flash drive
Figured out GParted

I think this will work.
