Hi all

I'm still more or less new to Linux and Ubuntu as a whole, and would be very interested in meeting some local linux users. Through googling I found the LoCo for washington, D.C. but I didn't see any info on where to sign up, how to get in contact, or otherwise make contact with members of the group.

I'm currently living in Woodbridge and would hope to meet up with other local users to try and learn about linux, as well as get help in some of the things that text-based guides just don't seem to help with.

I look forward to a response,

Opethfan89

Hey there,

Live in College Park, and I joined the Maryland LoCo team. Have not looked into the DC one, but the MD one seems a little lacking.

There should be scheduled meetings on the DC loco wiki.

http://dc.ubuntu-us.org/ - DC's Website

According to that website they have not had an event since July.

https://launchpad.net/~dcteam - Launchpad website.

I am not sure what the leadership of this team is, but if you want we can dig deep find some good information and perhaps arrange our own meetings.

DC group used to do it at Howard County Public Library once a month. I am sure we can find a free meeting space in DC to have monthly meetings or whatnot.

Ubuntu is all about community, and it is slightly dissapointing that both DC and MD have pretty subpar local communities.

Stay in Touch.

Lev

That would be me. Our team has ongoing activities, but doesn't meet per se. Although the page doesn't say it, we once again tabled at the Takoma Park Folk Festival in September. Coming up next, I'll be at CrisisCamp Haiti, Washington, DC next Saturday, and with any luck, others in the LoCo will jump in. I'm negotiating right now to see if we'll have a place a the Free Culture X (FC X) at GWU coming up in February. Next up after that will be the Federal Office Systems Expo (FOSE), where we share space with other local Linux groups.

We don't seem to use the forums much, but the mailing list sees a fair amount of action...

Correction. I should have said "I'm the Team Contact". "Leader" would be a bit of a stretch.

Since when? Perhaps you mean the MD group... The DC group is mainly in a place known as Washington, DC. ;) No one on the 101-member mailing list has ever mentioned meetings at Howard County, although I do recall a MD group meeting there at least once.

Howard County probably was Phil...he does mention his activities on the mailing list.

If you scroll down a bit, Takoma Park *is* mentioned on the site. I posted links to photos from the event. November's installfest is also listed. So um, yeah....definitely had events after July. And as the page also says, we'll have someone at FOSE in March to represent the LoCo.

Some of us used to get together regularly for bug jams, but since only 3 or 4 ever showed up we stopped doing that. Daniel was suggesting maybe we should do an "Ubuntu Hour" like other LoCos are doing. I was like "what? you mean like how we used to be in Caribou by Metro Center for 4 hours every Sunday?"

Hey everyone, thanks for the responses. I did see the LoCo website but I wasn't sure how to join the mailing list, and I don't really understand this whole launchpad system so if you guys want to explain that to me I'd be more than happy to try and schedule a meet up. If people are willing to travel, there are tons of places down here that are computer-friendly or have free internet so I'm sure we could accomdate something.

My email address is kadaranwar07@gmail.com if anyone wants to give me more information or get in touch with me that way.

Thanks again!

P.S. : doesn't the title of the thread sound like a dating site? I wasn't sure what to put lol.

For launchpad, you just go to http://launchpad.net and register an account. Launchpad is also where bug reports for Ubuntu go. Then you go to http://launchpad.net/~dcteam and hit the button to join the team. Our mailing list is at https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-us-dc
