Lovely, i especially love the first one. I like the happy stuff better than the less happy stuff, and I don't agree that order has to lead to misery.

- Beautiful work.. although considering what happened to him and his society in his real life maybe you're right.

Which wacon tablet is it? I'm thinking of getting the little 50 quid A6 one, but i've never had one before and I don't know what I'm looking for.

For now I don't mind drawing with the mousepad, it's fun, but there are a lot of things I'd like to do that I just can't do without ore control.

It's really hard to separate the money from the creativity, as soon as you start thinking bout money your work becomes democratic and you're worried about what people will like and won't like, that's soul destroying.
Also it's horrible when you put your soul into something and people haggle over it's price/value. better to give it away free or lock it away under your bed where no one will see it.
IF you get a normal job like working in mac donalds you can make more money than you would selling art, and your art can still be for you!

wWales
January 27th, 2010, 11:01 AM
Yes but the problem is i get inspired by the books i find at the university library, i have a lot of friends who would benefit greatly from reading up on some science and i want to open the door to the academic world for them by showing them what inspires me to do art. When im working im too tired and uninspired to do any art at all. this is where it becomes political for me, since i strongly believe an economic buffer should be in place, ensuring me food and basic housing, which would let me do my art and give it away for free without having commercial interests taint the process.

oh and the tablet is a graphire 4 i dont think they still make it but im sure they sell similar ones, the size is just 15x15cm but since you can manipulate the zoom level in gimp the size of the input unit doesnt really matter

I will! i just have to sort out some problems. this is an abstraction of the recent days:

I went to the house of the educated and read their books and gave them paintings.
They were impressed by the paintings but didn't see any value in them so they asked me to write more papers

I went to the house of the rich and wanted to show them what I can do without the incentive of money and that art truly has value to me and many others. They didnt see any value in art either and shut the door.

I went to the house of psychology to show them that i can paint whats in my mind and that this truly must have value to them, they didnt see any value in my art and locked me up and put me on medication

I objected to this and demanded a trial, after three days of beuracracy they finally let me have a trial and i was set free again.

With a 500$ legal bill to add to my 5000$ student bill

this is very very confusing and i think i need alot of peoples help to sort this out. Luckily it seems my uni has agreed to have an exhibition with my paintings and maybe when its all seen in context someone will throw me a bone and leave me alone to do more art

Post #50 is certainly interesting. What are you getting at, exactly?

wWales
February 5th, 2010, 07:03 PM
its a game on words that maybe only makes sense in swedish where "Mensa" can have the meaning of both the organisation for bright people and a verb-ilasation of a womans period, sort of.

It also reflects the dominance of ordering intelligences at my local university, which i find odd since a lot (if not most) of the important things ive learned in life have been emotional lessons from my girlfriends

with this painting im trying to bridge a connection that both sexes can have both types of intelligences, since they arent separated in the brain at all other that what order you make for yourself, when working in conjunction the brain seem to be capable of amazing things

You know, wWales, you are a good example of the fact that the tools are less important than the artist who is wielding them. I mean, sure the latest Photoshop and a humongous Intuos4 tablet are good things, but you are just as good without them. You have vision and an ability to express it, and that's something that money can't buy.

I love your art, it's very exppressive.
I'm concerned though that you're not allowing it to support you.
Might I suggest you get an agent (someone you can really trust though). That way, he or she can manage your art in such a way that it becomes a viable means of income, but not so that it interferes with your creative process.
You could also ask for a donation if people like the art. I mean why not, people do it all the time. That way you won't have to worry about making your art commercial and you can still just focus on making art, but you might get some revenue.

Do promise you won't do something dramatic like many artists have done when depressed. Remember that you are beautiful and we don't want to miss you.

I loved the video of your art. Although I think some Ken Burns Effects would have been great in it. Your art is already very dramatic, beautifuk and powerful and Ken would only made it more so.

But, I don't mean to sound negative, after all, you have just given us something beautiful and great and all for free.

Keep up the great work.

wWales
February 13th, 2010, 10:18 AM
thank you all for the awesome feedback, its really motivating :D

Dont worry about the dramatics, I've seen too many fall down there on my way

I really need content to be free though, otherwise it'd just keep rebuilding the structure it opposes. for example a professor who teaches in the transition effects between images and text have started using my material on his seminars, he would probably never have heard of me if i hadnt given the univeristy my paintings for free

I might find a way in which this can be possible to make a living on but until then the foodstamps will suffice
