I want to install Ubuntu Karmic Koala using only 12gb of space for the os itself and the rest of my hard drive for free space. How do I do this? I do not have any other os on my computer at all and I do not have access to any other os. Right now my ubuntu installation is taking up 72gb of my hard drive. I have barely any free space. Please give me a solution, thank you. I am still new to ubuntu so I probably will need good instructions.

80gb sea gate hard drive
1gb ddr1 ram
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+
ATI Radeon X700

I'm not sure what you are trying to do.
Do you want a separate partition?
Ubuntu will install but won't "take up" the 72G that you have, after the install you will be able to use all those Gigs in your /home directory.
Ubuntu will take only 2.8G in you HD.

You can use Gparted Live CD and partition your HH as you please; then install Ubuntu. If you are going to use Windows; leave that on sda1. Then install Ubuntu

Yes, Ubuntu will take 2.8G in System files and Swap space.
You will have 69G free to use in your /home directory.
