Ok i am kinda new to the whole i have a problem with my OS type deal so bear with me.

Ok i recently set up my system to dual boot Ubuntu and XP.
I installed Ubuntu from an 8.10 disc and then upgraded to 9.10 (8.10 > 9.04 > 9.10). Everything worked great. fast no errors. the only problem is it wont let me change my screen resolution past 800 x 600. I know my monitor and my video card support well over the current resolution but all i am trying to get is 1024x768 at least. I was able to set it higher than 1024x768 in previous versions of Ubuntu but for some 9.10 wont let me do it.

I am not entirely new to linux, but i dont even know how to approach this problem. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

This is all i really know about my computer but if you need more ask:

Dell Optiplex GX270
P4 2.8 GHz Hyperthreading
2.5 GB Dual-Channel DDR
Intel on-board graphics controller
40 GB WD HD and 80 GB Samsung HD - EIDE
Liteon DVD-RW/CD-RW SATA
