Either a sega genesis (mega drive), or a palm pre, what should I get. I really can't decide!

I would go for the Mega Drive ;)

Yeah, I think I'm really leaning towards the genesis. I just love sega.

Go for the Sega Megadrive! Get a second hand one though (preferably model 1, it has superior hardware), not that blaze branded crap.

How can you even be undecided? It's SEGA ffs!

What's the point in buying an old console like that when you get the emulators for free?

Get the Palm Pre.

Well, I wasn't sure because I love sega, and the pre runs linux. Although, I think I'm going with the megadrive (genesis here).

Get the Palm Pre.

There are so many reasons to get the real deal.

Out of curiosity how can you compare the two items? What I mean to say is that on a purely financial outlay basis the Pre (over here at least) is well in excess of $500. The sega, I can probably pop into town and pick one up for about $50.

Is there a reason why your choice is either one or the other?

lol@ emulators. It's nice to have the actual hardware.

Why? If your really hardcore, just buy a Genesis/Mega Drive controller and make it PC compatible by making the plug USB or parallel port compatible.

The Mega Drive/Genesis pads use a serial connection; they can be plugged into a serial port on your PC ;)

None of the MD emulators are 100% accurate, the closest is Kega Fusion and its Linux port is new and is not yet x64. Emulation sucks.

Do machines even come with serial ports anymore?

All my computers still have serial ports.

Nope it can't, it's wired differently, you have to modify it.

Anyways, I have a 64 bit pc, so emulators won't work. Gens cannot compile on a 64 bit machine for some reason. Other ones can't eather. I've tried many.

er, can't you just install ia32-libs?

My Ubuntu installation isn't currently functioning or I'd try it out right now. But I recall trying to use the dpkg command that would force 32 bit apps to install and they wouldn't. Also, most of the websites where the emulators I want to use are on only had the source code, not precompiled RPM or Deb binaries.
