I have always used Gnome Desktop Environment, by default and presumaly the default Windows Manager Metacity.

1) How can I find out which X Window System (xfree86, X.org, etc), I am using?

2) How do I switch back and forth between different Desktop Environments such as KDE,Gnome, Xfce?
2a) How about a comparison between different DEs?

3) How do I switch between different Windows managers such as Fluxbox, IceWM, Blackbox, OpenBox, WMaker, Sawfish, MWM, Metacity, TWM, in Gnome?
3a) Will It affect the functionality of any Installed Apps?

Pls advise. Thanks

That will depend on which desktop environments, window managers you have installed on your box.If you have more than one installed, just log out, then choose the session you want to use with "Options",log back in.I'm pretty sure all of those are available through synaptic. If you have the space on your machine,I guess a person could install them all,and switch between them.
