With the following?

-- Intel Pentium M 765 SL7UZ/SL7V3 Dothan (2100 MHz Single-Core)
-- 2 GB (1 GB x2 PC2100/PC2700 SoDIMM) RAM?

It will obviously make my machine faster, but I wonder if I should invest in doing so?

Or should I just wait a few years to wear this thing out and buy a new computer?

I don't goto the Cafe very often (not my cup of tea :) )--- I rebuild ThinkPads & the value vs heat goes away after you go over 2GHZ---My T42P flies at 1.8 & stays very cool--Now, the ram is the factor with them---1.5G I consider the "sweet-spot"--cost-effective & really helps the unit....And yes, the 7500 Video you have is the looser there---there were 3 motherboards---7500, 9600 & FireGL (32MB, 64MB & 128MB)---The "P" ThinkPads were FireGL video & you can find the ATI 9600 video motherboards on eBay every so often--nice middle-of-the-road motherboards that will do more than the base 7500 boards..... There is also a special T43 cooler I use for the more basic units that work better for cooling....

So what do you recommend exactly?

The only way to "upgrade" a laptop beyond RAM, is with a soldering iron.

Then I'm guessing I should just wear this one out and save up for a new laptop that will cost over 1000 USD in the future >.> just so that I can have what I want.

Yep. Laptops are made to be throw away items. CPUs, mainboards, GPUs etc are usually soldered together. Laptops are very expensive for something that is not that powerful, and that cannot be upgraded.
