I just got a new lap top and it is a brand new model (Toshiba U505-S2005). I made a 64-bit install disk and I can run it on startup but when i select a menu item (like install) it hangs. It is a 64-bit system and I have ran 32-bit Ubuntu in the past and had no problem.

Any Suggestions or is this a problem

can you try and load the 64bit live CD on text-only mode?

I know you said it is a 64 bit system, but reading around it seems at this time Ubuntu's 64 bit OS wont run well on several Toshiba satellites. (especially when it comes to the Wireless) you may want to try a 32 bit Version of Ubuntu
