Attached is a screenshot of the GNOME 2.30 release schedule, obviously at the end. How come 3.0 is in parentheses?

Gnome 3 isn't Gnome 3, it's whatever release can be considered Gnome 3.

I saw another reply to another thread of mine mentioning that GNOME 3 was delayed to replace 2.32 instead of 2.30.

Would make more sense if Gnome 3 was Gnome 3.0 of course I'm not a developer so my say is minimal. :/

So....they should make 68 arbitrary releases between 2.32 and 3.0 just to keep version numbers "in order"? Whenever they decide a version is 3.0, it will be 3.0...its just that they move one at a time until then.

Welcome to the wacky world of software development. Version numbers are pointless as well as common sense.
