View Full Version : [ubuntu] No foreground sounds playing MP4's

Hey guys when I play an MP4 movie everything is great except all I hear is the background sounds in the movie..and non of the foreground (ie the actors speaking)...I have uninstalled pulse audio in the past and use alsamixer for any sound configs...any help on this?

Open your volume control and make sure Front isn't muted.

Guys thism is a freakin nightmare.....firstly I uninstallled Pulse cause it was having issues with running a VM and Ubuntu at the same time.....now alsamixer is a nightmare to configure....when I play MP4's is sounds like the characters are speaking with their head in a tin bucket...all echoey....any help on this please!

I'm not all that familiar with alsa but from the description you gave it sounds like some effect like reverb or echo. Try looking for effects to disable. I understand that it's not considered wise to remove pulse. Read the first post here:
