Trying to enjoy Ubuntu. Want to put it on a memory stick but having probs. Used the usual pathways given in help section. No success. Put stick as no.1 in boot order (USB Key). No good. Then tried to put it as USB HDD. no good. Also want to get Python support for my gnu chess game to play on 3d board. Having diffs finding correct files and downloading. Running Ubuntu from cd drive before installing on hd so a bit slow. Am absolute to Ubuntu and Linux generally. Apart from read the newbie sections carefully any other advice. ehc.

In bios does your stick show up as a HDD? if so select it as first HDD.
Have you tried to install using unetbootin or USB Startup Disk Creator from the live CD?

Hello cs cameron, thanks for reply. YES tried all those. Think the problem is that stick is not set up to boot, boot order tried was usb-hdd an usb-key as no.1 in boot order in bios. Problem with the chess prog. is downloading python support for gnome-gnu chess prog. Used u-net bootin for the stick but no go. ehc
