I'll post this with the caveat that this is my desktop at work, where, like galley slaves, we are forced to hack away at WinXP for hours on end, all for a pittance. ...

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/4742/03010fg.th.jpg (http://img96.imageshack.us/my.php?image=03010fg.jpg)

Not exciting for Ubuntu, but a giant leap forward for WinXP. Please pardon me while I reboot again.

P.S.: It's dual monitor, hence the funky dimensions and creepy black spaces.

It's calibri, I think. It comes with the clearlooks for windows package, along with Segoe UI. I'm guessing they're distributable.

Here goes the best set I have found. It is called exquisite, and it is located on gnome-look.org. To install them download them then go to System-->Preferences-->Themes. Click on the Install New Themes button and then navigate to where you downloaded the icon pack. Select the icon pack and hit OK. Then all you have to do is select the Theme Details button, click on the Icons tab and select exquiste and close the themes box. You will then have it installed.

I changed lots this month!

I switched from a dark to a light theme, and now using tango icons my workspace is super-colorful.

Note the happy kids and dog& cat icons on the desktop.

I found deskbar-applet, it's now permanently in my panel!

No cool effects, just some common; xcompmgr mostly. And I have xdesktopwaves toggle on the desktop so I can play with it every now and then...

I got a green fix. Am I the only one here that hates gdesklets? I find them distracting. Oh well, I suppose I have to admit that I hate the Mac dock as well. When I try to open a program, it bounces away. In OS X would that is a feature, in Windows its a virus...

Oh well, here it is. Nothing like what people have; but I'm quite pleased. You can still see the menu fading away from when I clicked the "take screenshot" option... but whats the point of compiz if you can't show it off?

Trying out Kubuntu (using Dapper). So far, so good. Oh, for those out there using amaroK, things are SO much faster if you use mySQL instead of sqlite.

The theme is not realy a theme you need to install XGL compiz:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=131267&highlight=xgl

The icons in Nautilus are Vista-Inspirate:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=28352

The icons on the desktop are a mix of these places (some are need to be convert icon to png):

Because you spelt it co-incedental in response to co-incidental, which has the right letters but shouldn't have the hyphen either.

Ok, this has become somewhat annoying with time and I feel that it needs to be said.

People, please stop posting ridiculously large pictures. First of all, you're breaking the format of the forum (which is annoying.) And secondly, more importantly, not everyone out there has a high-speed connection (especially if they live outside of US, western Europe, Japan, SK, Taiwan and Hong Kong, you get the idea.) This can be extremely annoying if you're from such a country (say in some 3rd world country), don't have the bandwith to waste simply because someone uploaded a 1280x1024 picture. It wouldn't hurt to either have a smaller pic (which can lead to a larger pic), or simply leaving the url to a pic as it is, without the need to hotlink it.

As some of you might know, I'm from the states and I do have a fast connection, but I do remember the days when I had to go online using a phone line (not pleasant) and I can only imagine the pain/annoyance some have to go through just to have a section of the forums download, especially if there are 20+ 1280x1024 images hotlinked.

I'm not picking on anyone here (not my intent), but it would help alot if there was consideration for others that don't have very fast connections instilled into the posts that some of us make. This way the forum experience would be least painful for those members on a 56k connection and encourage people to come back here. The more people come back, the more participate, the more input that we get.

Thank you.

Could you please edit your post and make that picture a link :) ? It makes surfing the board more difficult for those that have a 56k modem. Also, some people have bandwith restrictions on their bandwith connections (me) and when forced to download the image many times while looking at all of the other desktops, it wastes bandwith. Also, it screws up the layout of the forum (making it more difficult to surf.)

:)

Thanks in advance.

That's your opinion, I disagree.

That and it messes up the format of the page forum. When I wanted to hit 'quote' in order to respond to this message, I had to scroll to the right, which is annoying. I have 1280x1024 resolution and it's more difficult than usual for me to navigate this thread when you posted your large photo in it, so it's not difficult to imagine that it will be even more annoying for those Ubuntuers that have a 1024x760 resolution.

Imo, I'm not asking much.

The pixel width is a valid arguement. From now on I will try to place thumb nails. But the data size is small. The post below mine, even tho it has a small thumbnail is still 400K. But to be a good sport, I will make mine thumbs from now own. :)

A thumbnail being 400kb? Is there a new image format that I have not heard of?

Anyways 220kb jpeg, even though you might not think is alot to a 56k, it has to load all the avatars, the other peoples thumbnails, all the words, plus your 220kb jpeg, dont forget the smileys. :|

Edit: I looked at it, it says 2.45kb(the thumbnail)???????????????
Also, its a waste of bandwith to the server, with 800+ users looking around the forum.

tango would be alright if they'd do something about those things sticking out of the bottom of the icons (shadows) :(

the dirs look better w/o the swirl. It's not a fancy swirl type folder, and trying to make it what it's not is cheesy and very unprofessional

but I guess, being a screenie thread, I should keep my mouth shut here. I just happened to notice the swirl and started typing as I was thinking

Yeah... they went to far... had an older/ less glossy version... but deleted it prematurely when I found the new build :( But its still better than the default Human theme... which doesn't go well with anything IMHO

It's only temporary... I'm going to mod the tangofied gnome folders from cvs to that orange/white scheme with a softer look... also coing to lighten the comp/monitor/network icons a tad... slap it together with the older tango actions (the new arrows are way to green (the older ones were more of an olive... much classier and the refresh was more silver/grey))

all in all.. a lot of work... but I think it will be worth it in the end

Also thinking of hacking together a Neo-GNOME

The only thing that will take time is filling in the empty spaces (the menus are horrid in there current state)

Have gone for a Gnome look that's influenced by OSX. Using MCLinux Icons from gnome-look, GTK is Smooth Milk Tango, Glider for Metacity, and some personalized icons for a few apps including the computer icon. The wallpaper is courtesy of a deviantart artist.

Here is my first desktop screenshot of KDE. It looks a lot different than before.

I was actually trying to make it look as much like a colour scheme I made and really liked in Windows 2000, before I installed Ubuntu and ended up using it all the time. I missed that colour scheme so much, and I was so happy that KDE had such versatile colour scheme options. Right away I got working on adapting it for KDE.

I have attached a screenshot of my windows setup with that colour scheme I've been trying to recreate in KDE, as well as my screenshot which I just took today.

What do you people think?
