View Full Version : [SOLVED] Installed Ubuntu, but still boots straight to XP

I've searched and haven't found a solution for this one yet, but here goes. I took a 160GB hard drive and split it into 4 partitions, 1 for Windows XP, 1 for Ubuntu, 1 for swap and 1 for future use (possible Hackintosh installation??).

I installed Windows XP first, downloaded all my updates, etc. Then, I installed Ubuntu 9.04 and selected the Ubuntu partition. After installing it, when I reboot the machine, it just boots straight into Windows XP, and it doesn't give me the option to choose which installation I want to use.

I wanted GRUB; I know the installation is there because when I boot with the LiveCD, it shows up.

Thoughts, direction, help? :D

@Go_Big_Blue. The same for me. I installed Ubuntu Karmic. All went right as far I can tell, but then my comp boots straight into Vista, no sign of GRUB (GRUB2 or GRUB-PC in my case) I know UBUNTU is installed. I can see it's filesystems from Windowz...

As soon I work this out, I let you know... however You have GRUB LEGACY with Jaunty which makes difference.

And apologize for my rough english.

And apologize for my rough english.

No need to apologize. I posted this same question in the Absolute Beginner forum and received the following response that helped me solve my issue on this matter (thank you 'synapsys'). So, after following the instructions on the posts below, I was able to solve my issue, so I am marking this post as solved as well. :)
