How to manually call Update Manager? How to do it automatically?

I have seen Ubuntu installations where the Update Manager is called automatically at startup (see attached snapshot). The Update manager searches for software updates
and offers new updates.

How do I call this Update Manager one time manually?
Is there somewhere a menu?

How do I call the Update Manager AUTOMATICALLY at certain times?

You don't say what version you are running, but the background of your screenshot looks a lot like Hardy. That's what I'm running so I'll give you the steps according to mine.

System - Administration - Update Manager to run it manually.

System - Administration - Software Sources and click the Update tab to set your preferences for receiving updates.
