I'm looking for a website about news in the open source world. For example about new linux distros, important updates, new open source programs, reviews of open source programs, seminers about open source etc.
Thank you very much in advance.

I like Slashdot (http://slashdot.org). It's "Linux" section covers open source news, but the rest of the site is also very interesting for anyone with a geekish side.

lwn.net is pretty comprehensive, it's design does appear to be a bit 1998 though..

I agree; I use it for some of my talk sets on the radio.

I think an rss with slashdot, arstechnica, digg.com (linux) would give a few things. Then follow the projects you're most interested in.

It only does part of what you want, but distrowatch and distrowatch weekly is always worth a look

Ugh! I hate /. Its full of 14 year old script kiddies and hard core l1nux fanbois; and saying anything remotely non anti-microsoft will get you a karma of -938247823974 in 23 nanoseconds.

+1 for the register (despite the fact they still had their "Early adopters bloodied by Karmic Koala" as recently as last week), distrowatch and digg.com(technology > linux/unix)

Browsing /. while logged in and with a threshold of at least +1 comments really takes care of 99% of the script kiddies. Metamoderation also usually takes care of "-1, Disagree" moderators. Some +5 comments are really interesting.

I see a lot of "I know I'm going to get flamed for posting something not entirely negative about Microsoft, but..." comments. If they're insightful, they get modded so. The "olol m$ luser" comments are almost immediately -1.

Slashdot's moderation system is really one of the best I've seen around.

Anyway, the alternatives are Reddit and Digg. Right now on the Reddit home page, "Vote for Barbie to become a computer engineer!", "Why do they call it the xbox 360? O.o", and on Digg, "Essential Whisky Facts Every Guy Should Know".

I like Slashdot.

Edit: Forgot to mention the Open Source section of Ars Technica, which is why I wanted to post here in the first place.

Linux Weekly News (http://www.lwn.net) top notch though lately has taken a slight anti-mono bias.

+1 for LWN. worth the subscription if you want the latest news.
also see:
osnews, distrowatch, phoronix (for graphics/video stuff).
the planets can also be good, eg planet ubuntu, planet gnome, kernel planet.

i recommend you get an rss feed reader (eg liferea ), and put all the feeds in there.
