I have a emachines et1331g-03w I am trying to install Ubuntu on. I have tried both 8.04 32-bit and 9.10 32-bit desktop versions. They both just go to a black screen and hang when you try to run from the cd or install. I have not tried the 64-bit version yet.

What should I be looking for to find the problem?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Is there a way to see the exact point the livecd or install hangs?

I did try x different options on F6 and set graphics safe mode.

Got it to display a prompt that you could do nothing with and the screen just kept flashing on and off.

Is there a step by step install or livecd trouble shooting guide?

im also seeing this... im using an AMD Sempron 2ghz processor with 512MB RAM and an ATI Radeon 9800 video card with 128mb mmory on it... the screen goes blank after I see the I/O error messages, my monitor just stays off... but when I long-press the power to turn it off an exit msg appears telling you to get the CD and press enter to shutdown the computer... can anyone help me on this???

64-bit should work. Its using a 64-bit box.

Tried it. Same results.

What I am trying to do is find out the exact point it hangs. But I have no idea how to make the install show what it is doing and not just show the logo screen.

I had a similiar problem. I'm running an AMD64 4000+, and it won't run the x86_64 cd. I had to revert to the i386 cd and boot in "safe graphics mode" {F4 if i remember correctly}.
I hope that helps you. Kir_b :)
