I'm trying to install Ubuntu Desktop 64-bit on my laptop. When I try to boot off the cd, and select 'Install Ubuntu', it loads 'live' (for lack of better terms) and takes me to a desktop. When I click 'Install Ubuntu' from the desktop, my cd spins for a sec, then stops. And it does nothing.

anyone have any ideas?

thanks,
oospill

Sounds like a CD error to me. Download again, and check the md5sum

First instead of booting into or installing Ubuntu go down to check disk for errors and run that.

yeah guys, you were right. I checked the CD for errors, and it found one bad file.

so, checked the md5sum, passed, and burnt me a new disc.

sorry for having stupid questions.

peace!!

If you are not sure of something the only stupid question is the one you don't ask!
