I'm thinking this must be the appropriate forum. I've got a Norwegian Keyboard, and I've used such a layout for 15 years, meaning going over to a keyboard with different setting would be a long term project getting used to. I discovered that in Ubuntu, some of my keys have completely different meanings than what I am used to and what it says on the keys (ie I have no idea where to find @, which for me on Windows [where I am now] is Alt Gr combined with 2). I'm sure there's a way to set the language of the keyboard somewhere so my regular key-layout remains intact in Ubuntu as well.

This should be in System -> Preferences -> Keyboard
There you should find the correct keyboard layout.

I think I had a look in there and you had to choose a Keyboard model, could that be right? In that case, my keyboard was not listed. :\

Oh, well I still can't find my keyboard model, but I realized that there is a language option, and that for some reason mine was set to Italian. It's not as it should be. Thanks.
