Hey all. I'm trying to update the BIOS on my Dell. I'm following the instructions here: http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Tech/libsmbios_dellBiosUpdate
However, when I run the command "getSystemId" as root, one of two things happen.
1.The computer restarts
2.The computer completely freezes. I can't even switch virtual terminals and I need to hold down the power button to turn it off. It feels like Windows all over again!
Are the instructions bad? I'm on Ubuntu 9.10. I'm a noob, so I need clear cut step by step instructions. Thanks!
