Can't seem to tap in to the knowledge of all you folks out there I really need help.

Ubuntu 9.10, GRUB Beta 1.97
After the updates yesterday it doesn't point to my kernel or anything else. I can boot off the CD to get in to files but it won't even let me change some of them saying I don't have the permissions.
I need to know what to do in order for my grub loader to just load back up Ubuntu.

I don't know how to get in to Grub from the terminal to copy/paste but when I loaded up the menu I held shift and the command showed something like this:
sh:grub> ls
(hd0) (hd0,5) (hd0,1) (hd1)

Also
/boot/grub/grub.cfg

I also just did fdisk -l if needed

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo fdisk -l
